The “NoFollow Free” “DoFollow” Movement Encouraging Blog Commenting And Spreading The Link Love!
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I love your comments on my site.
Ask a question, share your opinion, tell a story or just say g’day!
My site is “NoFollow Free” and I’m guessing since you are reading this, you want to know what that is.
That’s what this post is about and the first question should be…
What is “NoFollow”?
Well “NoFollow” is a tag which tells the search engines to ignore any links placed in comments.
The tag was implemented to stop spammers from commenting on blogs for the single purpose of promoting their spammy links to spammy sites!
What they didn’t know was that taking away the “link juice” would take away some of the incentive for legitimate readers to contribute to your site by leaving comments.
So now…
What is “Do Follow”?
“Do Follow” is a “NoFollow Free” movement to remove the “NoFollow” tag and encourage blog commenting.
The tag can be turned off in your blog through the installation of a plugin, I use DoFollow here on this site making my site “NoFollow Free”.
There are other plugins you can install to encourage more comments. I use CommentLuv.
What about the SPAM?
Well, unfortunately the tag has not stopped the SPAM.
SPAM. It annoys me and I’m sure it annoys you too.
But aren’t plugins awesome?! They can help you with this too.
I use Akismet and WP-SpamFree.
Yes, this site is “NoFollow Free”!
I appreciate your comments and want to help you spread the link love.
So go ahead and leave a (SPAM free) comment!
Hayley

I think it’s great that you are dofollow. My personal site and any of the other blogs I set up for others are always dofollow. It’s a win-win situation, the blogger gets comments, and the commenter gets a link back and like you said, the spam is not that difficult to deal with.

I completely agree a hundred%. I am unable to believe that he would even go along with that. Individuals nowadays are just incredible, never ceases to amaze me what folks do and say anymore. Nice blog.
This is cool! I’m going to get this plugin for my blogs as well. It will be interesting to see what kind of comments some of my sites generate.
Just ran across your site via a Google search! I had no idea about this plug-in in particular, but it’s great to know it’s out there… and that there are blogs intentionally implementing it. Akismet always does a great job with about 98% of the SPAM that comes through my blog, so I can see how these two will play well together. =)
Glad you found this post valuable!
Educational Computer Games, thanks for your comment. I just went and checked out your site, looks like something my son would be interested in…
